OPORTO, GAIA AND IT CELLARS
Elevated to the status of World Cultural Heritage by UNESCO, the historic center of Porto preserves historic streets and buildings located on the picturesque river bank. Buildings such as the cathedral, the Neoclassical Stock Exchange and the Church of Santa Clara, built in the typical Manueline style, are worth a visit.
The "ancient, very noble, always loyal and Invicta city of Porto" is how it is known, for having resisted the invasion by Napoleon’s troops.
The famous Port wine, one of the main products originated in the country, is marketed in the warehouses of Vila Nova de Gaia, on the opposite bank of the Douro.
